ABOUT LOG-UM 1.5
This is the shareware version of LOG-UM Ver. 2.5 logging program.
This version is limited in the features available. This version will
give you a plain Jane logging program to keep record your contacts.
This version will run on an IBM PC or compatabile, Mono or Color, with
a minimum of 256K of RAM.
PROGRAM SETUP
The program can be run from a single drive, dual drive, or from a
hard drive system. If the program is run on a 360K 5 1/4" single drive
system it is adviseable to format a disk for saving the data files to.
On a dual drive system use a formated disk for save files in the second
drive. On hard drive you can create a subdirectory, in the directory you
setup the program file, for the data files.
STARTING PROGRAM
BE SURE TO SET THE DATE AND TIME ON THE COMPUTER CORRECTLY BEFORE
RUNNING THE PROGRAM.
Type LOGUM15 to start the program. The first time you run the program
you will be prompted for the drive that the DATA files are to be saved
on. If it is other than A or B, you will be prompted for the path that the
files will be saved to. Type just the path, example:
If the subdirectory is on C:\LOG-UM\LOG-1\
At the path prompt type:
\LOG-UM\LOG-1\
and press return.
Then you will be prompted if the dirve and path are correct. If they
are correct type Y for yes and press return. If they are not correct
press N for no and the prompts for drive and path will repeat.
Then you will be prompted for the type monitor you have, if you have
a color monitor type Y, if not type N, and press return. The Welcome
screen will come up and prompt you if you want to do the setup procedure.
The first time you run the program you need to do the setup procedure also
when information entered in the setup has changed. Then setup asks for
your call sign, name, street address, city, state, and zip code. Enter
these as you would print them on you QSL card.(THIS VERSION WILL NOT PRINT
YOUR QSL CARDS, but if you upgrade to the commercial version the infor-
mation will be correct for it.) Then setup prompts you for your time zone
information. Setting this for your time zone will correct the automatic
time entry in the log for UTC time. Enter the correct zone or chose OTHER
to set the time + or - UTC.
Setup will then prompt you for the default settings. In this version the
only default that will be affected is the sound setting. To skip the other
defalts just press return at the prompt for the setting. To accept the
default just press return. To change the default type (Y or N) and press
return. After setting the sound default you will be prompted for equipment
defaults to be automaticaly entered into the station information part of
the log.
First setup asks for the HF rig that you use most on 160M thru 10M.
Enter the HF rig you use the most (ALL DEFAULT STATION INFORMATION CAN BE
MANUALY ENTERED DURING LOGGING IF THE INFORMATION IS DIFFERENT THAN THAT
ENTERED IN SETUP). What you answer for this prompt will be entered into
the station information automaticaly for contacts on 160M thru 10M. The
next prompt asks for the power in watts of the HF rig (The power usually
used). The next prompts asks for the VHF rig that you use most on 2M and
then asks for it's power. LOG-UM WILL ONLY ENTER STATION INFORMATION
AUTOMATICALY FOR 160M THRU 10M AND FOR 2M. IF YOU LOG CONTACTS FOR ANY
OF THE OTHER BANDS YOU MUST TURN THE SPLIT FUNCTION ON SO THAT YOU
MANUALY ENTER ALL INFORMATION FOR THE CONTACTS ON THESE BANDS.
The next section of prompts ask for the antenna used and the hight of
the antenna for each band. Answer the most frequently use for the band
and it's height.
This ends the default settings and the main LOG-UM screen then is
displayed.
FUNCTIONS AVAILABLE THIS VERSION
This version of LOG-UM is limited in the functions available. The
following FUNCTION KEYS ARE NOT AVAILABLE:
F1 thru F5
F7 and F8
The F9 FUNCTION KEY is limited in options available from the
displayed options, only the print log option is available. The F6 and
F10 FUNCTION KEYS are fully available.
USING THE PROGRAM
If you have entered the setup information for your station information
correctly and you are using the rig and antenna for the respective bands
as entered in the setup, you do not have to enter station information
during logging (SPLIT must be OFF). The program will enter the information
AFTER you enter the frequency in MHz (MUST USE THE DECIMAL POINT) and press
enter. If the information is not the same, press ALT-S to toggle the split
mode of entry before you press the down arrow to enter a QSO. The cursor
will go to the name of the operator first. If the information at the
cursor is correct just press enter to accept it, to change the information
type over the displayed information the correct info. (IF THE PREVIOUS
INFO. IS LONGER THAN THE NEW INFO. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CLEAR OUT THE OLD
INFO. REMAINING ON SCREEN, JUST PRESS ENTER). If you do not want data for
an item (blank), press space once and press enter. If you do not have a
color monitor type entries in lower case.
LOGGING A QSO
ENTERING NEW QSO WITH AUTOMATIC TIME DATE ENTRY:
To enter a QSO press the down arrow as stated above. The cursor will go
to HIS CALL >. Either accept the info. displayed by pressing enter or
overtype the displayed info. with the correct info. or blank the item as
stated above. The only item that does not retain the old info. is the
comment entry. The comment entry must be entered for each new QSO or it
can be blanked by pressing return. After the comment is entered the QSO
is saved to the disk and the disk entries is increased by one.
ENTERING OLD QSO REQUIRING TIME AND DATE MANUAL ENTRY:
See the CHANGE SETTINGS section.
EDITING A QSO
If the station information does not need to be changed, press the
page down key. If station information needs to be changed also be sure
to toggle the split to ON before pressing page down. The cursor will go
to OPERATOR IS > if split is ON, or to HIS CALL > if OFF. The prompt to
edit log or exit will display, press 1 and enter if you wish to edit.
The prompt for the log number to edit will display, enter the number of
the log entry you wish to edit. The number entered will display and the
prompt will ask if this is the correct log number. Type Y and press enter
if it is correct. The delete or edit prompt will display, enter 1 to
delete the entry or 2 to edit the entry. If you enter 2 to edit the prompt
will go to HIS CALL >. Edit by the overtyping method as described above.
If you choose to delete the log number, the program does not delete
it from the disk but keeps it from displaying. If the entry is
accidentally deleted it can be re-entered by editing the log number of
the deleted entry and removing the D in the QSL RCVD > and changing the
comment.
DISPLAY LOG
To enter the display function press the F6 FUNCTION KEY. The prompt for
full display or short display and exit is displayed. The full display is
displayed on screen exactly as the entry of a QSO is displayed. The short
display is an abbreviated display. After choosing the display, the prompt
for the search by call sign, search by parameter, or a range (all entries)
displays. Search by call sign, enter the call to look for and press enter.
Search by parameter lists all the parameters of information to choose from,
choose the parameter and enter the information for that parameter. Search
by range asks for a starting log number and ending log number.
PRINT LOG
To enter the print log function press F9 FUNCTION KEY. The only choice
that this version has, is to print the log. The program will print the
log from a starting log number to an ending log number. Turn the printer
on and enter these values at the prompts, then they will be printed in
either brief of full format that you choose at the prompt.
CHANGE SETTINGS
To enter the change setting function press F10 FUNCTION KEY. The choices
for change settings are NEW TIME or (Entering an old QSO date and time),
STATES ABREVIATIONS DISPLAY, RESET DRIVE INFORMATION, RESET DEFAULTS, and
EXIT.
To RESET TIME enter 1 and press return. The prompt for entering a new
time or old QSO is displayed. Press 1 and enter. Enter the new date and
enter the new time.
To ENTER AN OLD QSO enter 1 and press enter. Press 2 and enter. Enter
the QSO date and time. The cursor will go to the station information and
be at the OPERATOR IS >. Enter the station information, then the cursor
will go to HIS CALL >. Enter the QSO information.
To change the STATES ABREVIATIONS DISPLAY enter 2 and press enter. The
prompt for a full or abreviated display will display. Full display will
show the two letter abrev. and the state name. The abreviated display will
show the two letter abreviation only. They are displayed when the cursor
is at the STATE > prompt.
To RESET DRIVE information enter 3 and press enter. Enter the new drive
information.
To RESET DEFAULTS enter 4 and press enter. Enter or change the default
settings as needed. The new drive setting for save files is then displayed
at the DRIVE SET TO >.
SHAREWARE
This is a shareware program and it is not freeware. It is made available
under the shareware concept, you may distribute copies only if the program
and documentation files are both distributed together.
If you use this program then you must send in to the address above
a registration fee of $10. Registering will insure you that you can get
the current version and documentation of the program (for a small fee to
cover costs and mailing) and author support.
It is thru the support of the shareware concept that the author can
provide this low cost program and support. If you use the program and do
not register it, then the support from the author and future revisions and
support can not be possible!
At present this is the only version(1.5) of this program for shareware
as of 01-01-90. When registering feel free to make any comments as for the
improvement of this version, they will be considered in the making of the
next version.
